Despite the fact that access to nationality is faster in Spain than in any other EU country for most of its non-EU immigrants, the main European index that evaluates integration policies, MIPEX (Migrant Integration Policy Index), gives Spain a low score in this regard because it only reflects the 10-year residency requirement, and not the two-year exception. This paradox unfairly damages the reputation of Spanish integration policies, which nevertheless score highly in the remaining areas.
