Lithuania is among European countries where immigrants are worst welcomed

Lithuania has one of the worst policies on integration of foreigners in Europe, new research states.
According to Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX), among 31 countries where research was conducted Lithuania holds 27th position. Among five outsiders there were Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, Slovakia and Cyprus.
During the research EU countries and Norway, Switzerland, Canada and the USA situation was analysed.
In the comparative analysis of the integration policy the legislation of various countries on access of migrants to labor market, reception of residence permit and citizenship, and towards education are considered; also participation of migrants in political life of the country is taken into consideration.
Lithuania has received 44 points of 100. In comparison with data from 2007 when 28 countries took part in research, the valuation of Lithuania has improved on one point; Lithuania with 43 points occupied 20th position.
"In 2007 Lithuania was on 20th place among 28 countries. At that time I would like to applaud to Lithuania as there were 7-8 countries behind us. In 2011 Lithuania is on 27th position among 31 countries. We haven't made anything bad with respect to integration, but, in general, we haven't made anything at all. The problem is that as a matter of fact in this time other countries have made something, and Lithuania hasn't made anything", the representative of Institute of Ethnic Researches Karolis Zhibas said.
