Whereas significant resources are invested in various policy initiatives aiming at the integration of immigrants into host labour markets, it remains unclear how these policies relate to observed immigrant-native labour market gaps observed across Europe. The interaction with immigration policies is similarly under-informed. This paper reviews and classifies integration and immigration policies across Europe, referring to the MIPEX index, enlightening the debate about what types of policy approaches are more (and less) conducive to integration of immigrants in regard to their labour market potential (e.g. human capital) and which affect their treatment in the labour market (differential returns to different characteristics).
