The Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX) reminds us of the European move towards a common system of monitoring migration and integration policy. MIPEX hold the view that; ‘When migrants feel secure, confident and welcome, they are able to invest in their new country of residence and make valued contributions to society.’ To ensure fair treatment for individual migrants, it should be recognised that while migrants in Tier 1 (General) and Tier 2 primarily come to the UK for economic purposes, their value to the UK is much more than as units of labour....
