Over the weekend, the results of an international study of immigration policies were released by a group of organizations managed by the British Council and the Migration Policy Group. Called the Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX), the study sought to demonstrate which countries had policies that facilitated successful integration of immigrants. It ranked the United States ninth out of 31 on a list of examined countries that also included Canada, Norway, Switzerland and the European Union Member States...
Sweden, Portugal and Canada were ranked first, second and third, respectively.
The study looked at a variety of policies in each country, including policies that govern residence status, family reunification, and access to education for immigrants, whether they were pursuing full citizenship or not. In fact, access to citizenship was another factor considered by the MIPEX.
