Free UK MIPEX training day: International perspectives on migrant integration

Free training day: International perspectives on migrant integration on 31 March 2011

Runnymede Trust, the British Council and Immigration Advisory Service are pleased to invite you to a free training seminar on the third edition of the Migration Integration Policy Index (MIPEX III), recently launched in Brussels.
The integration of migrant populations is an area of policymaking that is in the spotlight in the UK, and across Europe and North America. To shape and improve effective integration policies, comparable information and fact-based dialogue are essential.
The Migrant Integration Policy Index provides clear comparative information to assist policymakers in making decisions.
Speakers at the event, to be held at  the Prince of Wales Suite, 10 Spring Gardens, London SW1A 2BN, will include:

Chair: Sarah Isal, Runnymede Trust
Overview of MIPEX UK results: Thomas Huddleston, Migration Policy Group
Advocacy and campaigning: Zrinka Bralo, Migrants & Refugee Communities Forum
Academic research: Dr Ben Gidley ESRC Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS), University of Oxford
Government policy: Alex Lim, DCLG and Chris Hedges, UK Border Agency

What is MIPEX III all about?
The MIPEX is a reference guide and fully interactive tool to assess, compare and improve integration policies. It measures integration policies in all EU Member States, Norway, Switzerland, Canada and the USA. Using over 200 policy indicators it creates a rich, multi-dimensional picture of migrants’ opportunities to participate in society. The index allows its users to:

Analyse seven policy areas which shape a legally resident third-country national’s journey to full citizenship.
Examine how policies compare against the standard of equal rights and responsibilities for migrants.
Find out how your country’s policies rank compared with other countries.
Track if policies are getting better or worse over time.
Dig into real examples of how to improve policies.
Use it to design and assess new laws and proposals on an ongoing basis.

What is this event about?
The aim of the seminar is to introduce how MIPEX III can be used by researchers, activists and policy makers to find up-to-date, comprehensive research data and analysis on which to base policies, proposals for change and projects to achieve equality. The seminar will be useful to:
·       Policy makers, to use solid evidence of changes over time and recommendations while revising policies.
·       Migrant organisations, to use evidence for advocacy on integration policy improvement
·       Academics and researchers, to use the data for their own research.
·       Journalists, to draft attractive headlines and news items.
We would be delighted if you could join us on this occasion. It will be an ideal opportunity to meet with researchers, practitioners, policy makers, community organisations and other key players. Please note that space is limited, so early registration is advised.
