Estonia placed 19th for creating equal opportunities for its residents, according to the Migrant Integration Policy Index which recently assessed the integration policies of 31 European and North American nations.
Policies concerning citizenship, anti-discrimination and immigrant participation in politics are the most problematic areas in Estonia, said Kristi Kallas, spokeswoman for the Institute of Baltic Studies. On the other hand, the country is quite liberal in providing immigrants access to the local job market and giving out long-term residence permits, ERR radio reported.
