The Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to the European Union hosted today the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe (CPMR) Task Force on Migration. The Permanent Representative Amadeu Altafaj welcomed the participants and stressed the Government's commitment to the Task Force and “the "All Mediterranean" campaign”. Altafaj stressed this debate is timely “in the context of the current and lively debate in Europe about the management of migration, asylum and integration, which are also key priorities for our Government”.
Altafaj pointed out two initiatives the government has enhanced to respond to the ongoing humanitarian crisis: “On one hand, in 2014 we approved an International Protection Plan in Catalonia, with the support of social, to jointly coordinate and promote actions in this field. On the other hand, the government, along with other institutions and social entities, has established a Working Committee to facilitate and efficiently organize the reception and care of refugees in Catalonia".

He also stated that Catalonia supports and promotes the creation of a regional MIPEX as a "useful tool in the present context". “This project aims at comparing and measuring the level of integration by collecting indicators in all participating regions. The results will be taken into account to improve existing practices and to develop new policies”.
