How we can, and must, do better when discussing race

The UK, like many other countries, continues to confront its own issues of racial injustice.

It’s exciting we’re talking. Silence, after all, is betrayal.

As discussions have evolved, it’s become apparent that a particular group of friends — mostly white, educated, self-described allies — have a similar approach to the conversation. Their questions are rhetorical, they’re convinced they get it. Their primary goal is to ensure that we’re maintaining perspective, and they do this by assuming the role of translators between minorities and the uneasy white masses.
